APPEARANCE:
Thorn, just like his other half, is a very short and awkward looking man. He is pasty, constantly wearing red and white jester face-paint. The small man has a very devilish looking expression and his distorted smiles always come out looking rather queer. Being the opposite of his other half, Thorn's entire outfit is comprised of the two colors, red and white, and looks just like Zorn's. The man wears an over-coat/mantle which has a heart on one sleeve and a diamond on the other. This is a count-point to Zorn's, which has a club and a spade. Under his mantle is a plain white button-up shirt with three rows of buttons and some white tights. His shoes have a slight curl at the toe and are also plainly white.
PERSONALITY:
Thorn is generally a curious personality. He speaks in an odd manor, reversing the normal order of things. Where Zorn would say "We are in trouble", Thorn would say "Trouble we are in". This peculiarity isn't the only place where Thorn sets himself apart from normal people though, as he also has other twisted characteristics that reside just beneath the surface. His joyful jester appearance is usually a good representation of him, as he is slightly short attention-spanned, but that joy fades when it comes to matters of 'business'.
The jester's business is serving dastardly overlords, the first known one being Queen Brahne. Clearly the man has dark tendencies considering he's only shown working for the evil side of things, but he also seems weak. Even if fear were a factor, which it doesn't seem to be, he probably still couldn't be encouraged to play by the rules. Yet this dark man isn't capable of being evil on his own. He follows the lead of others, not even considering what he may want or goals for his life.
BIOGRAPHY:
It is unknown where Thorn was born or most of what happened during his lifetime, but the story that is known starts when he is eighty-nine years old, serving Queen Brahne in Alexandria. Thorn is the peculiar 'twin' to Zorn and is never seen anywhere about the castle without him, as is demonstrated when Brahne calls upon them as a pair, never one at a time. The first sight of the peculiar pair is when they are making their way to see Brahne during Tantalus' performance of 'I want to be your canary'. They bicker a bit, Thorn always speaking in an odd manor, before finding their way to the queen. After that they run about the castle to look for the princess, bickering all the while.
Soon the castle erupts into chaos as the princess escapes on the Tantalus ship and Brahne launches a full out attack. The band escapes regardless and Thorn is left with his other half to serve Brahne. The queen creates more powerful black mages, three specifically, and sends them and Zorn and Thorn to retrieve the princess. Thorn and his other half first find Zidane and friends in the ice cavern and they send out Black Waltz 1 to go defeat them. The Waltz was defeated rather simply by Zidane so Zorn and Thorn retreated until a later date.
Briefly the two are seen on an airship which gets hijacked by the third black Waltz. This happens when Zidane and friends are on the cargo ship that they redirected towards Lindblum and after they defeat the Waltz it goes crazy, taking Zorn and Thorn's ship to try and destroy his enemy. Thorn and his twin jump off the ship mid-air and it's not entirely known how they manage to, but they retreat back to the castle. Soon after the pair are sent with a collection of black mages to conquer Burmecia, the queen taking the lead with Beatrix and Kuja. Zidane spots the pair for a moment in Gizmaluke's Grotto before they run on ahead.
Before the takeover is completed, Zorn and Thorn both head back for the castle where they capture Garnet as she is trying to see her mother. They take the captured princess to the dungeon where they preform a ritual in which they extract her Eidolons. After their extraction Zidane and friends show up to save the princess and engage in a fight with Zorn and Thorn. The two lose, but achieved what the queen wished so they retreated to the queen. Brahne arrived back at the castle just in time so Zorn and Thorn guide her to the intruders only to find that Beatrix had swapped sides and joined with Zidane. A battle erupts in the castle and even though the two fight for the queen Zidane and his friends all end up escaping.
Zorn and Thorn aren't heard from again until after the battle at the Iifa tree. Once the queen dies the two switch their services to Kuja, working for his ends instead of finding their own way. At one point the pair are ordered to extract the Eidolons from the kidnapped Eiko, to which they respond is impossible considering her age but they try regardless. After one failed extraction they try again only to be stopped by the mysterious moogle that the child always had on her. The moogle turns out to be a very powerful Eidolon which starts another fight against Zorn and Thorn.
Zidane and friends arrived just in time so Zorn and Thorn resort to showing their true form: Meltigemini. The two created a horrible creature together, commanding impressive power, though even that is was not enough to save them from their death. Thorn was confused upon being reborn, but just as his other half he did not want to enroll in the school Thorn saw no purpose in it. The two wandered until they began to hear rumors of a crazy blue woman in the String district.
