The planetarium was hollow and empty. On any given day every single seat in the dome could be filled with students learning about the stars, planets, the numerous places any given student could have come from. But today there was nothing going on, no one to operate the projectors or lecture students who would no doubt show varying levels of interest. It was just Serge.
He walked through the seats, looking around at the walls and the central projector. He wondered how it worked, how the teachers would make it display the vast infiniteness of the cosmos. The amount of time and effort must have taken to map every star, and the even greater effort it must have taken to accurately simulate it was amazing to Serge. Back in Arni the most advanced piece of technology he could remember was a motor boat.
Serge let out a long sigh. He'd been here for almost three months and no planetarium, library, or classroom had been able to shed any light on who he was. The last thing he could remember was falling asleep on the beach and waking up in town. He was told he was a hero, that he must have been a great warrior and he was here to protect the town but Serge had never tussled with anything bigger than a komodo. How could he defend a town from monsters? He had tried to tell the elegies they must have made a mistake but they only insisted that they couldn't have.
Serge took a seat in the auditorium. He needed time to think and the north side of the school was the only part that was empty on a reliable schedule. He needed time to think, to sort everything out.
